How To Retire Young

How-to-retire-young.com is about lifestyle design and how to make money online to live your life the way you want to. I want to prove to myself and to you guys that in today’s modern world we don’t have to slave away 9-5 every day just to get by, if you want to escape from the matrix like system we have in the west, there are other ways to live our lives.

I’m starting this website in Thailand at the age of 28, and i’m about to move on to Australia where I’m giving myself two years to build up the site so that when I turn 30 I can live my life with the freedom I’ve always dreamed of. It is now easier than ever to make money online but still few people are taking advantage of this. I want to jump on the bandwagon and ultimately helps others to do the same.

If you’re thinking I have lost the plot and that I would need to be making heaps of money to consider myself retired then you may be right on the first count, but on the second I don’t think I will need that much money at all. In fact I believe that by living a simple life as a digital nomad, being able to travel and live in places where the cost of living is so much cheaper, I actually believe I can retire on about $500 a month, and that is what I will initially be aiming for.

I’ve been planning this site for over a year, and have been researching and learning over that time, so this is not something I’m taking lightly or that I’ve dreamed up overnight. During that time I’ve built another website (that didn’t do very well, but I’ve learned a lot from my mistakes), and researched all about blogging and making money online.

So I’m not going to pretend to be an absolute expert when it comes to travel, blogging, or making money online, I’m still learning new things myself. But I feel I’ve learned enough over the last couple of years to put this site together and see where it takes me. I’ll be sharing what I know and as I learn more I’ll be sharing that with you too.

About Dave

Dave was born in Essex in 1982. For those that don’t know it is in the UK just to the east of London and doesn’t have the greatest of reputations, although personally I don’t think its any worse than anywhere else in today’s modern Britain.

Dave Hunt

I left school at 18 almost as a straight ‘C’ student, I’m naturally lazy and even 10 years ago I think this shows I did just enough to get by.

Over the last 10 years I’ve gone from crap job to crap job without ever feeling particularly settled or happy. It was my first trip to Thailand last year that made me take a good look at my life and start to think about other options. I thought if I could settle somewhere like this where the cost of living is so much cheaper, I wouldn’t need to make a huge amount of money to get by. I’m not a material kinda guy, in fact I just sold nearly all my material positions to go traveling. I only have my laptop and what’s in my backpack, and I don’t feel I need anything else.

So I’m willing to settle for a pretty simple life if it means I don’t have to go back to work in the matrix. I realise this site is making a pretty bold statement and I will end up looking pretty stupid if it doesn’t work out the way I’m planning, but that’s just adding to my determination to succeed. With Western Europe in such a mess at the moment I don’t see much point in going home and slaving away just to pay off other peoples debts, but that is my only real alternative. The way things are going back home I probably won’t be able to retire until at least 70, meaning I’d have about 40 years of hard graft ahead of me.

Personally I think concentrating all my efforts into this blog, and perhaps a couple more websites, seems a much better option. That way I can keep traveling if I want, and won’t have to go back home and find a “real job”. So if anyone else fancies an easier life you may as well keep reading to see what I’m doing and how I’m doing it. This will probably be one of the smartest or stupidest blogs you’ll come across, either way its gonna be a journey.
